Legal Utopia Supports 'Legal Innovation Programme'

Westminster Law School, the University of Westminster announced earlier this month a new 'Legal Innovation Programme' to support 'LawTech'.

In February 2019, Westminster Law School confirmed the appointment of Legal Utopia CEO - Fraser Matcham - as the first Director of Legal Innovation (Consultant) to pioneer a new 'Legal Innovation Programme' to support the growing emergence of 'LawTech' in the legal services sector.

Legal Utopia agreed to provide support as an industry partner to the Programme to provide work experience opportunities to Westminster students and deliver workshops on the application and use of artificial intelligence in legal services.

The new Programme incorporates the launch of a 'Legal Innovation Zone' - the first University Student LawTech Eagle Lab - which will house a small cohort of Westminster students with legal innovation concepts and incubate their development into prospective seed-ready start-ups.

Feeling an enthusiast start to the Programme, Westminster Law School hosted the London node of the Global Legal Hackathon where over 100 participants and a range of international law firms competed to develop technology-enabled solutions with pitches undertaken in front of an expert panel of judges to get to the next round of the global competition.

At the event, Fraser Matcham announced the industry partners to the Programme including Robot Lawyer LISA, Barclays Eagle Labs, Jurit LLP & Westminster Student Law Clinic, as well as an advisory board to the programme of lawyers and technologists from Deloitte, The Entrepreneur Lawyer, Barclays, Jurit LLP, Clerksroom, and Fieldfisher LLP.
