pieces of law are the DPA (Data Protection Act 2018) and the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
Where we can help...
A data breach occurs when an unauthorised party obtains access to an organisation or person's data. This will consider data protection laws where this data includes personal data. For example, where an unauthorised party accesses a database that holds information about customers or a laptop containing unencrypted employee information.
Data Subject Rights
Under UK data protection law, British (and EU) citizens have a range of specific rights concerning their personal data. These rights are referred to as Data Subject Rights, this includes, but is not limited to, your right to request access to a copy of your personal data.
Data Subject Access Requests
Under UK data protection law, data subjects can make a subject access request to obtain their personal data. The request can be made verbally or in writing and the organisation has one calendar month to respond. The organisation cannot normally charge a fee.
