About Us

Founded in August 2017, Legal Utopia is a social LawTech venture focused on delivering our mission to make law affordable and accessible to everyone. Our capability was funded by the European Regional Development Fund and private investors to change the dynamic; by working with leading UK universities and industry partners to develop a new solution to those priced-out of legal services or hampered by its inconvenience.

We continue on a forward and upward trajectory in achieving our goals as we enter our next phase of progress and service expansion.

Chief Legal Officer @ Legal Utopia

Our aim

Access to justice is a reference commonly made, but its scope is not widely defined. Instead, acting as a principle or an ideal arising from the adoption of, and belief in, the doctrine of the rule of law and due process.

When we reference access to justice, we understand this can mean many things to many people, at Legal Utopia we want to highlight our focus on the elements that are incorporated into this term by expressly identifying where we want to achieve equal access in our legal system.

Access to Law

We want everyone to have the opportunity to access the simplest of legal information custom to each individual's legal issue or dispute.

Access to Financial Aid

We want everyone to have the opportunity to access financial aid to enable them to obtain access to legal advice or due legal process.

Access to Knowledge

We want everyone to have the opportunity to access legal advice from knowledgable lawyers or digital processes.

Fraser Matcham
Founder & CEO @ Legal Utopia

Our Vision

"The vision for Legal Utopia is to radically change the status quo of delivery and the unfair business model of legal services...we want to make legal guidance and advice as convenient to our subscribers as Netflix is to streamers.

Law can be complicated and there can be many variables to consider, the excuse that this cannot be automated is defunct and the generalisation that it has to be expensive is merely a failure to pass down the cost savings that can be made.

This venture was termed Legal Utopia for a reason, it's our reminder of the mission. What we must deliver. What we can deliver. What we should deliver.

We're making law accessible and affordable to everyone...we hope you'll join our journey."

Our Goals

An offering needs to be able to sustain itself into the future with reliance only placed on our customers' and clients' satisfaction.

An offering needs to be modular in its foundational design to allow for continuous learning and always pivoting to deliver value for the future.

An offering needs to work with other industry participants and stakeholders to enable a level competitive playing field so everyone can be part of positive change.

We work with a range of partners to deliver our capability into the hands of those that need it, helping our partners deliver value to their customers and clients.

We built an application that can deliver the convenience that we have all grown to expect. Best of all, it won't break the bank!

We've been collaborating and testing new ways of delivering legal support; working with universities, law firms, regulators, and technology companies.
